Our Aim is to produce superior, high index, maternal sires for commercial lamb producers. The Flock was founded
in 1987 from screened ewes, and only lambs born in the first 23 days of
the lambing period are retained for recording purposes. |

All lambs are weighed, tagged and recorded at birth, and the ewes ability to protect the lamb during that process is also recorded. Heavy selection pressure is placed on the flock for

All the rams are scanned for eye muscle, fat cover and measured for scrotal circumference at 11 months of age, while all the ewes are scanned for eye muscle and fat cover at 15 months (2nd shearing time, when wool production is recorded). We monitor internal parasite resistance by recording individual faecal egg counts (FEC's) from all weaners. We also monitor mothering ability by recording the 'flight distance' of ewes at tagging time (birth). Young rams are available for sale from mid October, and are always priced according to their index rating. However, buyers are encouraged to select the appropriate E.B.V.’s for their own breeding programs and requirements. The Clifton Hill flock is now
being run on the Bellarine Peninsula east of Geelong, and inspections
are invited by appointment. |
